Facts

The organically certified gourmet estate in Straden, located in the volcanic region of southern Styria, holistically combines viticulture, wool pig breeding, gastronomy, accommodation and tourism programs. The millenia-old igneous rock basalt plays a defining role in all areas.

Services

  • Public Relations

For two generations, the family-run business in Straden, southern Styria, has been producing high-quality wines and products. Cornerstone of their doing are the love and respect for nature and regionality.

On 34 organically cultivated hectares at the foot of the extinct volcano "Stradner-Kogel", the Krispel-family produces wines that are characterized by the unique basalt soil. Inspired by this rock, Stefan Krispel reflects the special character of the landscape in both his products and his architecture.

Since 1999, the estate has been home to woolly pigs, a robust cross between Duroc and Mangalitza breeds. The farm has been certified organic since 2023. Their tender meat, marbled with fat, is used to make homemade sausages, the delicious bacon "Neusetzer" and many other products.

„For me and my family, sustainability means above all taking responsibility. Responsibility towards the environment, the soil, and people.“ - Stefan Krispel

What's it all about?

Since taking over in 2007, Stefan Krispel has shaped the business with his innovative spirit and vision. He created a sustainable business in which all elements are cleverly interlinked: the meat of the woolly pigs is served in their own award-winning restaurant while the compost is used in the vineyards. Specially developed technologies ensure smooth processes in every division of the company.

The holistic agriculture focuses on treating the soil, animals, and nature with respect, complemented by close cooperation with regional partners. Stefan Krispel's concept demonstrates that mixed, sustainable agriculture can be successful and viable for the future.

About Genussgut Krispel

The history of the Krispel family is unlike any other in the industry. In 1989, Toni Krispel laid the foundation with 3.8 hectares of vineyards and a wine tavern. In 2007, his son Stefan took over the responsibility for the production of the wines and later for the entire business. Since then, together with his wife, he has developed one of Austria’s leading destinations for high-quality food and wine. With a spirit of innovation and a holistic approach, they have expanded beyond viticulture to include a wool pig farm (certified organic since 2023), the award-winning restaurant Genusstheater, modern accommodations, a variety of events and experiences centered around regional origins. What began as a small winery has become a haven for enjoyment that uniquely combines tradition and the future.
