Pia Strehn has sparked a rosé revolution in Burgenland. Together with her brothers Andy and Patrick, she runs the winery in Deutschkreutz with impressive teamwork, focusing squarely on high-quality, characterful rosé wines. Since the fourth generation trio took over the family winery in 2012, they've developed extensive expertise in rosé – and it is now their unique selling point. From the start, the siblings shared a common goal: to craft the best rosé that Burgenland can produce.
The Strehn family has been engaged in winemaking for four generations. While the vineyards were once just part of a mixed farming operation, mother Monika Strehn shifted entirely to winemaking in the 1980s. In 2012, her three children – Pia, Andy, and Patrick – took over the business and have since jointly managed the 54 hectares of organic vineyards. Early on, the siblings departed from the classic winemaking traditions of Mittelburgenland to focus exclusively on rosé. Thanks to their strong bond and perfect division of labour, the winery has enjoyed unparalleled success in Austria. This success is now gradually extending overseas, earning recognition alongside top rosés from around the world.
"Rosé means more to us than just a wine. For us, it is an attitude to life. We want to reinterpret this attitude to life and show different faces of rosé. Rosé is our lucky streak."
The story started with Karl Strehn, who grew wine purely for his own enjoyment. His son Josef expanded the vineyard, and his daughter Monika took it to new heights. Now, the vineyard is run by the fourth generation, Pia, Andy, and Patrick, who have specialised in the production of rosé. Long underestimated in Austria, their dedication has sparked a flavour revolution that has received numerous awards. For these three siblings, rosé isn’t just wine; it's a lifestyle that must be showcased in all its facets.
