Caro Maurer Carnuntum Academy

Zweigelt is the most important red wine variety in Carnuntum. Practically every estate cultivates it. This is why Zweigelt exhibits a great deal of diversity in Carnuntum: it grows on gravel, clay, loess, limestone and granite soils. And the variety always shows itself in a different light. Since these differences are most evident and easily appreciated in wines from individual vineyards, this event will focus on them.

The first female Master of Wine in the German speaking countries, Caro Maurer MW, is going to speak to the winemakers and you about the influence of soil.

About Carnuntum Academy

The Carnuntum Academy is an initiative created by winegrowers from Carnuntum, designed to give wine industry professionals (hospitality, import, trade & press) the opportunity to continue their education in an uncomplicated and efficient manner. Distinguished speakers, together with winegrowers, will guide participants through the individual sessions, which will be held in German and English. In the first year of the Carnuntum Academy, a great deal of attention will be paid to Zweigelt, since it is celebrating two significant anniversaries in 2022. Exactly 100 years ago, the grape variety was first created with the name »Rotburger«.  The eponymous wine Rubin Carnuntum – which was also bottled for the first time thirty years ago – can look back on a unique success story as a regional branded wine.

Discover Carnuntum together with top-class speakers:

  • Marc Almert: ASI Best Sommelier of the World 2019

  • Caro Maurer MW: first German Master of Wine & journalist

  • Paula Sidore: US-German journalist (TrinkMag & Jancis Robinson)

  • Stuart Pigott: German-British journalist & wine critic (James Suckling)
