Lech Zürs am Arlberg has 1,500 residents and 36 Gault-Millau chef’s toques. Little wonder that it is known as a gourmet mecca. The alpine village is also famed for its unbelievable trove of wine experts and expertise. “Arlberg Weinberg,” scheduled this year from December 7–18, will give the general public a range of opportunities to test the local culinary and vinicultural prowess. The festival will host more than 25 events centered around grand wines and fantastic foods.
Domestic and international winemakers will travel to the gourmet village bearing treasures and highlights from deep in their cellars. Their ranks will include luminaries such as Domaine de la Romanée Conti, Gut Hermannsberg, and Familie Perrin, as well as a range of Austria's stars. Another major focus for this year: champagne. Five different events will shine the spotlight on vintage and prestige champagnes. The annual "Best Bottle Award," challenging fine establishments from around Lech and Zürs to present their absolute finest bottle, is focused this year on sparkling wine.
Lech's top chefs (spanning more than 20 restaurants listed in major gourmet guides) will also have plenty of treats in store: Julian Stieger will make his debut at the Chef´s Table in the Roter Wand, Paul Ivic will demonstrate just how delicious vegetarian cuisine can be in the high alps, and the ‘köstlicher Ring’ will guide guests from one incredible restaurant to the next.
