Austrian Single Vineyard Summit

Austria’s most prestigious wine tasting will return to historic Grafenegg castle in September 2023 – better than ever! The five-day Single Vineyard Summit is held under the auspices of the 77-strong winery group, Österreichische Traditionsweingüter (Traditional Wine Estates of Austria). From 4-8 September 2023, wine professionals have the opportunity to taste the very best site-specific Austrian wines less than an hour’s drive from Vienna.

Dozens of renowned producers from Austria’s key wine regions will gather in the picturesque Grafenegg estate to personally present their wines – before they reach the market. The breadth and depth of the single vineyard wines are renowned internationally but only once a year is there the opportunity to discover their singular characteristics in one place.

Five days, 500 single vineyard wines

The first four days, Monday 4 Sept. to Thursday 7 Sept., will see the presentation of Österreichische Traditionsweingüter (ÖTW) wines, which span 90 Erste Lage (Premier Cru) vineyards across the Danube River regions. Thermenregion will premiere at the summit in 2023, joining the appellations of Kamptal, Kremstal, Traisental, Wagram, Vienna and Carnuntum for the first time.

Styria jointly takes the stage on Monday 4 Sept. and Tuesday 5 Sept., when the 12 wineries that make up the Styrian Terroir and Classic Wine Estates (STK) will present their single vineyard wines from Erste and Grosse Lagen. On Thursday 7 Sept., the ÖTW is joined by Eisenberg and Leithaberg in Burgenland, with their predominately red wines. They will celebrate their fifth year at the event by showcasing some older vintages. On Friday 8 Sept., Vinea Wachau will unveil their site-specific wines for the second consecutive year, at home by the Danube River.

The format will be a ‘silent tasting’. Participants get to decide which wines they want to taste and in which order by individually requesting their desired samples in writing beforehand. The wines are then presented by the vintners themselves. To avoid distractions, entry will only be permitted at the beginning of the pre-booked slots, either at 9 am or 2 pm. Seats will be assigned.

About the Austrian Single Vineyard Summit

Five wine producer organisations come together for this event: Österreichische Traditionsweingüter (ÖTW), covering the Danube regions of Kamptal, Kremstal, Thermenregion, Traisental, Wagram, Vienna and Carnuntum, who are renowned for being pioneers in the classification of Erste Lage wines in Austria. They are joined by winegrowers from Eisenberg and Leithaberg as well as the Styrian Terroir and Classic Wine Estates (STK). 2022 marked the inaugural appearance of Vinea Wachau (Vinea Wachau Nobilis Districtus), an association of Wachau winegrowers founded in 1983. The ÖTW Single Vineyard Summit therefore offers tastings from all of the key wine regions and sites in Austria, under one roof at Grafenegg castle.
