In just a few years, Catarina Vieira and Pedro Ribeiro have developed the Rocim winery into one of Portugal's most successful projects – and they have made no compromises in terms of taste. In addition to the wines they produce in Vale do Rocim, in the Vidigueira sub-region of Alentejo, the two have made the most of many other "cool spots" for exciting wines over the past 20 years. They have selected vineyards near Lisbon, in Dão, in Bairrada, in the Douro, the refreshing north of Vinho Verde and the islands of Madeira and Azores. Wherever they work, the couple looks for regional expression and typicity. Tasting the origin – the sense of place – is of the upmost importance to them. With Catarina in charge of Rocim's organic, hand-tended vineyards and Pedro leading the winemaking operations, the couple's dynamism seems unstoppable.

Our viticulture is focused on keeping the freshness, acidity and minerality. Also, the sites we pick for our vineyards always keep this in mind – sometimes because of the soils (we love granite!) and sometimes because of the proximity to the Atlantic Ocean.

The secret to working together is using our best individual strengths and respecting each other with no interference in each other’s work! Catarina is very strong in viticulture while I move better in the spheres of winemaking and sales.

Catherine Walbridge

Head of International

From London to New Zealand and Hong Kong, Catherine Walbridge brings the world to Vienna, combining international experience with refined storytelling. For over 20 years she has worked as a journalist for leading media outlets worldwide. Growing up, she dreamed of becoming a race car driver—today she channels that energy into strategy and communications at Wine+Partners. Personally, she considers herself more of a Pinot Noir, but in Vienna she discovered her love for Gemischter Satz. Her most unusual glass of wine? On the Thai-Myanmar border as a lecturer in journalism.

About Rocim

Catarina Vieira and Pedro Ribeiro live and breathe fresh, origin-based wines from Portugal. The power couple's story began in Vidigueira in Alentejo, which is something of an oasis in an otherwise hot region thanks to the cooling influence of the Atlantic wind which is captured by a local mountain range. The expert viticulturalist and winemaker have now applied this maxim across Portugal – selecting only the best sites blessed by cool breezes for their refreshing, structured wines.
