The fact that the Douro Valley in northern Portugal has gone from terra incognita to a popular destination for international wine and gourmet focused tourists owes its success in no small part to these four leading estates: Quinta do Vale Meão, Quinta do Crasto, Niepoort, and Quinta do Vallado.
In 2003, the renowned wine producers banded together to raise awareness about what makes Douro wines so special. They are now regarded not just as the finest of Douro winemakers, but are counted among the best and most in-demand estates in the whole of Portugal.
