Favourite rosés for summer
Summertime and the livin' is easy - at least with these rosy wines in your glass!
Few wine styles are more inextricably linked to summer than rosé. The demand for rosé wines has risen rapidly in recent years in line with the mercury in the thermometer. For a long time, rosé was not taken seriously, but the trend towards "more" has also brought a change in quality, typicity of origin and variety. Rosé not only changes colour in the glass, it also has a wide range of terroirs and styles and has become a serious all-rounder.
It is sometimes delicate, lively, demanding, sometimes elegant, with a good measure of freshness or depth and is a welcome pairing partner. Whether with a summer salad, fish (even smoked!) or grilled steak - it's a match! And rosé can even cut a fine figure with cheese.
We are certain that rosé is the future. That's why we've put together our favourites. They are also perfect for celebrating International Rosé Day on 14 August!
Rosé all day! Preferably with these wines...
Rocim, Alentejo, Portugal 2023 Mariana Rosé
This rosé brings the sunshine of Alentejo to your glass. Portugal's power couple of wine Catarina Vieira and Pedro Ribeiro use the Touriga Nacional and Aragonez grape varieties for this mineral-fresh wine that tastes like a holiday!
Langmann winery, West Styria, Austria Ried Hochgrail Sonnenhang 2022
Rosé extreme! The grapes for this wine come from the uppermost spot and at the same time the southernmost, warmest and steepest part of the Hochgrail, where the Langmanns' oldest vines are located: the 'Sonnenhang'. The 2022 vintage was spontaneously fermented in used barrique barrels and matured on the lees for 14 months before being bottled in spring 2024. The result: Sonnenhang Schilcher 2022 is deep, tightly meshed and already at peace with itself. The savoury finish whets the appetite for more!
Weingut Riedmüller, Carnuntum, Austria Down to Earth, Rosé 2021
Michaela Riedmüller's 'Down to Earth' series stands for unfiltered, mash-fermented wines with character, matured in wooden barrels. We dance through the summer with her Blaufränkisch rosé from the Betonei, reminiscent of a ballerina. Delicately silky with floral notes, it pirouettes on the palate, but also shows its powerful side.
Weingut Christina Netzl, Carnuntum, Austria Rosanna 2023 Bio
Summer feeling as wine? Voilà: Tina Netzl's rosé, with its fresh, lively fruitiness, is what we like to drink. 100 percent Zweigelt, 30 percent processed using the Saignée method.
