Simply Gut Hermannsberg

by Bettina Bäck

Riesling brilliance meets accessibility. With the Gutsweine "JUST Riesling", "FINE Riesling" and "WEISS Burgunder", Gut Hermannsberg has created three junior masterpieces. The entry-level wines from the Nahe vineyard combine the highest quality with uncomplicated drinking pleasure. The trio from the 2023 vintage has just been launched.

There are many extraordinary things about the historic Hermannsberg estate on the Nahe. A large part of the special features originate from the fact that all the vineyards of the estate are classified as VDP.Grosses Gewächs sites. The vineyards of Gut Hermannsberg offer the best possible conditions for great wines, which the team brings into the bottle with incredible quality mania and is regularly honoured for this. Gut Hermannsberg only launches its wines after they have matured for up to five years. The best wines need that much time to develop their full greatness. And to leave connoisseurs in awe and amazement.

The right wine for the right moment

But to be honest, a great wine is not always the right wine. Very often, in fact, it should be a wine that accompanies a wonderful moment without claiming it for itself. The estate wines from Gut Hermannsberg are designed for precisely these occasions. At an incredible 11.50 euros, the "JUST Riesling", "FINE Riesling" and "WEISS Burgunder" wines offer drinking pleasure for every taste. The grapes come from the younger vines, but they are given just as much attention in cultivation, vine care and processing as "the big ones".

"These wines thrive on their freshness. Now you just have to decide whether it should be a mineral Riesling, a Riesling with a fine balance or a flattering Pinot Blanc!"

Jasper Reidel, CEO of Gut Hermannsberg

JUST Riesling 2023

Uncomplicated, "JUST" opens the doors to the Riesling world of Gut Hermannsberg. Juicy and animating, with captivating fruit flavours and harmonious acidity. A Riesling that combines all the qualities of its origin. Flavours of ripe stone fruit, green apple and lemon, cool style with a light minerality and herbal spice.

FINE Riesling 2023

Fine, tart Riesling has a long tradition on the Nahe. This one simply summarises the strengths of the region. A classic aroma spectrum of fully ripe stone fruit, red apple and citrus. Balanced sweetness paired with a concise acidity and minerality.

WEISS Burgunder 2023

The volcanic soils of Gut Hermannsberg bring a tautness to Pinot Blanc that usually demands full attention when savoured. The "WEISS Burgunder" is able to present this minerality with lightness and charm. A combination of floral aromas and exotic fruits. Slightly creamy, with clear herbal notes and a harmonious acidity structure.

"With these wines, we also want to show that it is perfectly possible to vinify wines of calibre and top quality in the price category of an entry-level wine!"

About Gut Hermannsberg

The original “Royal Prussian Winegrowing Domaine” was founded in 1902 as a state-run model winery for Riesling. It is notable for its picturesque location above the Nahe River (90 minutes southwest of Frankfurt am Main). Every one of the storied estate’s 30 hectares of vineyard has been classified by the VDP as a GROSSE LAGE. Depending on the soil conditions, the now seven GGs are matured for different periods of time before they are released on the market.
